Marina Masatovic – born in the Netherlands (living in The Hague), with roots tracing back to the beautiful Croatia.
My artistic journey is guided by a quiet inner force that shapes my work. Each piece invites you to look beyond the surface – to sense what lies beneath. Over time, my visual language merged with emotion. Edible art became my silent poetry – tangible and meant to be tasted.
It began with a love for nature and a longing to create. During my years as a notary clerk, I felt a growing need to follow a more intuitive path. Guided by curiosity and a desire to make emotion tangible, I began experimenting and teaching myself along the way. Patisserie became my language, a way to give form to what lives quietly within.
inspiration
each creation begins with a moment of pure inspiration. I am drawn to beauty found in architecture, fine art, fragrance, or emotions that resist words. Flowers hold a gentle magnetism for me – a sensitivity my mother taught me to see. Nature became my constant muse. Through my work, I try to capture that fragile beauty into edible sculptures that leave a lasting sensory impression.
the sensory language
scent, flavour, and colour are woven into my creative process. My sensitive sense of smell guides me toward nuances that often go unnoticed, a subtle thread that shape each composition. Flavours are balanced with intention, often enriched with teas, herbs, or flowers to add depth. Colour forms another quiet layer. Soft palettes have become my signature. In this dialogue of the senses, a creation becomes more than edible — it becomes an experience that lingers.
the essence
at the heart of my work lies a search for connection, a small poetic encounter. Simplicity is a refinement, a conscious removal of everything unnecessary until only the essence remains. I am drawn to the fleeting – to the moment where beauty almost disappears. Is is precisely there that it feels most alive. True beauty speaks softly. It is born from purity, devotion and emotion. When the unnecessary falls away, something delicate begins to breathe.
a dance with light
photography became a natural extension of my work – a way to hold ephemeral moments and translate them into visual stories. My love for classical ballet, where my artistic journey began, taught me that even the smallest movement can hold deep emotion. That philosophy still guides my work today. Every creation is, in its own way, a quiet choreography.
